Abstract

The purpose of the present research are to investigate the narrations about form used by the narrators of The Passion According to G.H. (PSGH), The Stream of Life (AV) and The Hour of the Star (HE), by Clarice Lispector. The analysis is anchored on Benedito Nunes critics about the works of Clarice Lispector and on the Chinese conception of art from the I Ching - The Book of Changes. The research aims to pursue the significant pathos of "passion" (in PSGH), "compassion" (in HE), and "empathy" (in AV) and to examine the metaphor present in the beginning of PSGH "a fiery nebula" and "earth", as well as its implication, the "adherence", also identified in HE and AV. In these two works, the adherence does not emerge from the aforementioned figuration, but from a route common to all three works, which is related to the figuration and to the pathos: the narration of difficulty and the need for forming what is presented as being inexpressible. In the beginning of PSGH, the difficulty and need of the autodiegetic narrator to find form to narrate its ascetic experience predominate; the moment of surrender to some form is narrated as being "a fiery nebula that cools into earth", "crust that hardens on its own", so that the form is formed by itself. There is equivalence of this figuration (added to effect of adhere) with others contained in the I Ching as representations of the artistic process. "Surrender" is the word used by Nunes about the pathos of Clarice's writing as being a new way to saying achieved by the plight, process which, according to Nunes, begins and ends in PSGH and then reconfigures into HE, where the critic identifies the transmutation of "passion" in "compassion". So, and having adherence's images in HE, this project aims that narrations about giving it form also be compared with the Chinese concept of art. The analysis proposed in this project intends to expand Nunes's analysis adding AV, with a view to the "empathy" narrated there, taking into account the Chinese conception of art, once also identified the image of adherence.
