Abstract

AbstractCharacterization of hair and development of cosmetics for hair protection and repairBrazil ranks third in the global market consumption of hygiene products, cosmetics and perfumery, being the second largest market for hair care products. Cultural, economic and social contribute to this current situation. The constant launch of new products hair presents itself as an important attraction for consumers, however, the scientific and technological research do not keep pace of releases of these products, which often lack the scientific background needed to ensure effectiveness and safety of the proposed use.The hair fiber is subject to various damages caused by environmental factors, daily care and and chemical treatments. Knowledge of the damaged hair structure is essential to ensure that cosmetic products are developed to meet the real needs of consumers.Therefore, the objective of this work is to characterize the different types of hair, exposed or not to ultraviolet radiation and chemical treatments, aimed at developing cosmetic formulations for hair care, that contemplate the real needs of consumers.In order to do this, it is important to characterize the natural/virgin hair, the chemically treated hair (straightened hair) and the hair exposed to ultraviolet radiation in the presence or absence of cosmetic products. Those products will be developed to prevent or repair damaged hair
