Abstract

Computer Visualization is a growing field due to its offering of new ways to interpret and analyze the contents of large or complex data sets, involving many techniques and tools that provide to the user ways to interact and explore such data to obtain useful information. Music, in other hand, is a complex area which computational study is difficult, mostly due to the analysis of musical information having subjective features or ones that are dependent of human interpretation. Although much research has been published about this subject in the latest years, most of it aims to analyze sets of musical compositions or recordings in order to classify or group the data according to some criteria. Therefore, the visualization of information contained in a single musical composition remains as a challenge, especially when musical information involved - the content seen by a musician when analyzing musical sheets and scores. This proposal presents the study and development of an approach to musical composition visualization that is capable of showing elements such as variations in harmony, tonality and tempo in a static vision, with the objective of aiding a musician (or a beginner in musical study) in the task of interpreting a composition.
