Abstract

The extreme rainfall episodes have been constituted as the main triggers of disasters and negative impacts on the territory. This analysis and identification demonstrated the different forms of space production in urban areas, with consequence and contribution as an important part of the studies in geographical science. In this way, it was proposed as a general objective in the design of a regular masters analysis: analyze the episodes of intense rainfall genesis and its impact on geographical area forms in the city of Rio de Janeiro in the period from 1999 to 2010. To achieve this, it has been proposed as a specific objective to identify the action (dynamic and connections) generators mechanisms from these episodes. For this, as a target, it is proposed as a general objective for this subproject - BEPE: characterize atmospheric systems in the extreme episodes production of rain in the city of Rio de Janeiro (1999-2010). This characterization will give through the quantification of these weather systems, their identification as to its genesis and synoptic state-space using the methodology proposed by the Spatial Synoptic Classification - SSC. The SSC aim is to identify and classify atmospheric systems according to their state in a particular location. This new classification aims to contribute to the synoptic studies from the regular project, linking this new technique to an analysis of the geographical climate. (AU)
