Abstract

Distributed generation has been increasing significantly worldwide due to some reasons, such as the changing of the energy sector structure, from a vertical to a horizontal one; the use of renewable energy resources; and the possibility of generating power from alternative power sources. Nevertheless, the connection of distributed generation in power distribution systems causes impacts on the system losses, which can be either positive or negative ones. These impacts are highly dependent on the generation level and on the location of the generator. In this context, this project aims at investigating the influence of the connection of multiple distributed generators on the distribution system losses, focusing on the contribution /responsibility of each generator in the total system losses. The investigation will be carried out through the analysis of three losses allocation methods described in technical literature: Substitution method, losses marginal coefficient, and method of losses sensitivity related to active and reactive power injected by the distributed generators. One important contribution of this project to those methods is to consider load variation and different generator operating modes. (AU)
