Abstract

The current difficulties faced by parents for the education and raising of children, such as conciliation of time, work, money, and lack of experience, leads them increasingly to seek expert help. Considering it is at early ages that give the basis for development and formation of the individual, it is essential that the family environment, as well as parents and guardians, are prepared for this task. Caregivers are the first contact that children have with the world, are the mediators because they teach them the language, communication and shape their behavior according to their own, so they must have a broad repertoire of parenting practices. The cognitive-behavioral therapy bases PROPAIS (Orientation Program for Parents of USP-RP) in order to assist parents and caregivers, promoting health and improvement in family life. Through the guidance parents are able to identify and best respond to the behaviors of the children, also, parents learn strategies to deal with the problems, since the program promotes positive interactions, communication between the family and provides a knowledge base of child development. Parents who participate in the program have their children treated for interns of cognitive-behavioral approach to the CPA (Centre for Applied Psychology) USP-RP, so that the orientation serves as a complement to the treatment of children and adolescents, having the role of guide caregivers to use these lessons at home. The aim of this study is to evaluate the parents who participated in the orientation program for parents, identifying whether there were differences in scores between pre and post-test regarding the parenting style and complaints related to their children. For this will be used the instrument IEP (Parental Style Inventory). This instrument identifies parenting styles and provides general notions of the set of attitudes that parents use for their children's education, both positive and negative, such as Positive Monitoring, Moral Behavior, Punishment Inconsistent, Neglect, Discipline Relaxed, Monitoring negative and Physical Abuse. It is intended to identify through this instrument if these parenting styles have changed after participation in the orientation program and which ones they were. Thus, it becomes possible to generate improvements in program refinement and reproduction of the same to evermore be able to assist parents and caregivers. (AU)
