Abstract

Because rainfall is an element of enormous influence on human activities and physical processes, its comprehension subsidizes various areas, and thus the understanding of its variability demands constant research, especially in areas of deep and rapid transformation, such as the state São Paulo. This research seeks to understand the dominant modes that determine the patterns and trends that drive the rain in this federation, which concentrates most of the population and the economic and financial activities of the country. The series of precipitation will be splitted into two similar periods that will be compared by conventional and multivariate statistical techniques and by the gamma distribution parameters. Spatial patterns will be identified and assessed considering the local and regional systems, but also influences of possible teleconnections. The results will be mapped using geoprocessing and discussed qualitatively in terms of their environmental impact. (AU)
