Abstract The first objective of this research is to translate and comment Pindars Olympian Ode XIII based on a detailed study of the poem, covering all its aspects, either linguistics or poetics. Once this part is done, I will discuss briefly the most relevant points concerning the poem in the context of Pindars works, especially the epinikia. It will be necessary to use a great variety of works dealing with greek language, Pindars language, commentaries, translations and other kinds of critical works. The chosen ode is a good example of many traditional features of Pindars poetry, as the use of ancient poetical devices, first-person statements, catalogs, hymnical invocations etc. This research aims at filling a gap of translations and critical works about Pindar in Brazil; specially about this ode, a very complex poem, but one that lacks a significant number of studies. | |
