Abstract

Apiculture is an alternative for the development of a familiar based agriculture, especially in places of preserved vegetation, likewise the Vale do Ribeira in Sao Paulo State. This region needs economic activities with low environmental impacts, and that preserve its natural richness. In this scenario, the racional apicultural activity is extremely important for the income generation in the local quilombola's communities through a sustainable agricultural production and for the preservation of the native flora. In this framework the project aims to characterize the botanical and fitogeographical origins of the honey and pollen loads produced in the quilombola's community of Porto Velho with the objective of helping to establish a certification process and amplify the knowledge about the apicultural Brazilian flora. Honey and pollen loads samples will be collected monthly, as well as branches of plant species in bloom in a radius of 500 meters around the apiary. The preparation of the honey, pollen loads and polen grains will be made according to the classical European methodology without the use of acetolysis, and the plant identification will be made with the help of specialists. The expected results are to help in the sustainable development of a quilombola community in a needy region of the Sao Paulo state through melissopalinology and amplify the comprehension about the apicultural flora in Brazil.
