Abstract

Obesity and overweight are risk factors relevant to the development of chronic diseases. Morbidly obese individuals have a reduced functional capacity compared with people in the normal weight range. This is because it needs a greater amount of energy to move a heavier body weight. Objective: To evaluate the functional capacity of morbidly obese bariatric surgery with pre test 6-minute walk and compare with the formulas for North American and Brazilian obese. Method: The study population will consist of 90 consecutive patients candidates for bariatric surgery, of both sexes, aged between 18 and 59 years. Will be included patients with body mass index> or 40Kg/m2> 35Kg/m2 with comorbidity, presence of cognitive level to understand and implement the evaluation procedures and follow the directions given. Will be excluded from those who submit related diseases that preclude conducting evaluations. All patients hold: anthropometric measurements (weight and height), visual assessment of pain and functional capacity evaluation test (six-minute walk). Data analysis will be descriptive, as the mean distance walked, and residue analysis, considering a significance level of 5% and a power of 95%.
