Abstract

Laccases are multicooper oxidases that catalyzes the oxidation of 4e- of a reduction substrate, with the concomitant reduction of 2e-´of dioxigen to water. These enzymes play a crucial role in the global carbon cycle, having as one of their main application the degradation and neutralization of environmental pollutants. Taking into account the importance of this enzyme in both sectors, biotechnological and environmental, the present work aims to scale-up the production of laccases using the marine-derived basidiomycete Peniophora sp. CBMAI 1063, based on the optimized conditions of production previously obtained in small scale. The laccase produced by the fungus Peniophora sp. CBMAI 1063 has shown significant results in the decolorization of textile dyes.
