Abstract

The cotton seed is an inexpensive product of the textile industry, containing a large amount of lipids and known as the second largest source of protein, besides of its content of essential nutrients in its composition to animal development and widely used in ruminant diets. The goal is to evaluate the performance and carcass characteristics of feedlot Nellore receiving cottonseed and vitamin E. Will be confined 54 bulls of Nellore with approximately 350 kg of initial weight and 24 months. The animals will be slaughtered in accordance with the weight (block), and confinement time (approximately, 75, 96, and 100 days). The diets will consist of different concentrates, which are included in cottonseed, corn, dry beans, citrus pulp, bagasse and raw soybean meal. Will be used three diets: control diet without whole cottonseed, diet containing cottonseed and diet containing cottonseed and 500 IU of vitamin E / kg of dry matter of the ration. The animals will be slaughtered and will be evaluated performance, carcass yield, rib eye area, fat thickness and marbling.
