Abstract

Thyroid hormones (TH) play a recognized and powerful lipolytic effect in White Adipose Tissue (WAT); however little is known about the molecular mechanisms involved in these actions. It is known that the main effectors of tissue lipolytic action that are hormone sensitive lipase (HSL) and Adipose Triglyceride Lipase (ATGL), which hydrolyze triglycerides into fatty acids and glycerol. Other components involved in lipolytic activity are beta adrenergic receptors and perilipinas, these proteins involving adipocytes, forming a protective barrier against the action of HSL and ATGL. It is known that thyroid hormones increase the expression of beta adrenergic receptors in various tissues, may exert part of its lipolytic effect through this mechanism. Regarding the action of TH on the HSL, jobs are scarce and inconclusive, even less is known about its effect on ATGL and peripilin. Considering the importance of adipose tissue in energy homeostasis and as a source of cytokines related to tissue sensitivity to insulin; that the metabolism of adipose tissue varies with the regional distribution; and that the lipolytic actions of TH, important regulators of energy homeostasis, have been little explored, we intend to investigate in rats, (a) if the HT interfere with the expression of HSL, ATGL, perilipin A and beta3 adrenergic receptors in white adipose tissue, and (b) if these actions differ in different fat depots, which could expand the field of knowledge about their lipolytic effects and our understanding about the contribution of these hormones in the complications associated with obesity and its comorbidities.
