Abstract

The development of this internship overseas research aims to contribute to the understanding of socio-spatial practices in medium cities in Brazil, from the contact with other urban realities, in addition to undergraduate research project already in progress. Based on the study of a new commercial hub, Jardim Bongiovani - Parque do Povo - Prudenshopping, in the city of Presidente Prudente (SP), we propose to compare two different urban realities, in this case, Lleida, Spain, a city which our research group (GAsPERR) has a strong research links. We identified in this Catalan city, a sub-center commercial Ricard Vinyes and therefore we will take into regard, simultaneously, the differences and similarities between these sub-centers/ commercial axis, aiming to understand the importance of commercial establishments, not only in economic, but also in relations of sociability: both developments from traditional center, serving consumers more socially homogeneous, but which in turn does not outweigh the traditional center in the roles played. Thus, this project directs his attention to the relationships between each one (the sub-center and commercial axis) and the whole (the both cities), as regards relations between the particular (each one of these both medium cities) and general (the realities of urban areas in which they are inserted, not only in São Paulo and Brazil, in the case of Presidente Prudente, not only Catalan, Spanish and European Union, in the case of Lleida, but also globally, in both cases).
