Abstract

This research aims to collect data about the circulation and reception of romance novels in three daily newspapers from Portugal: Gazeta de Lisboa between 1808 and 1840, O Patriota between 1842 and 1853 and O Portugez between 1853 and 1866. The research tries to investigate the similarities and differences among the romances advertised inside the newspapers, the existence of correlations between the novels most advertised and the synchrony in the publication of romance novels in serial form (folhetins or feuilleton) making a comparison between the data collected and the information found in the Brazilian periodics Diário do Rio de Janeiro and Jornal do Commercio, newspapers which are researched in the project “The transatlantic circulation of printed - the globalization of culture in the nineteenth century”, under the guidance of Professor Dr. Márcia Abreu.
