Abstract Bullying as a type of interpersonal violence is considered to be an important problem to be investigated and dealt with at schools. Its occurrence is associated with contextual aspects of both schools and students. This study specifically focuses on aggression correlated with the students' personal characteristics that make them vulnerable to victimization because these characteristics may indicate consistent guidelines to promote quality of life and the prevention and control of bullying in the school environment. Therefore, this study's objective was to verify whether the Training Program for Social Skills helps to change the vulnerability to bullying of victimized adolescents. This is an intervention study, the development of which is based on the assumptions of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Intervention and comparison groups will be formed with 6th grade students from five public schools in the city of Ribeirão Preto, SP, Brazil. All the groups will be assessed in terms of the presence of bullying, intensity of victimization, and development of social skills before and after the training program is implemented with the intervention groups over the course of 12 months. We expect this investigation to provide data concerning the acquisition of social skills after the intervention, the maintenance of such skills in the follow-up assessments, and generalizations concerning skills, as well as their impact on the personal and social development of students in terms of reduced vulnerability they present in relation to bullying. | |
