Abstract

This project aims at describing and analyzing the uses of insubordinate constructions in Brazilian Portuguese, more specifically insubordinate conditional constructions, according particularly by Evans (2007, 2009) and Schwenter (1999, 2013 in preparation), among others. Insubordination is the process by which a construction, marked by subordinating conjunction, is used independently, without being connected to a main clause. One intends to show the discursive contexts in which these constructions are used, as well as their formal and functional features. This project also aims to reach a more systematic treatment of conditionality in Brazilian Portuguese and a better understanding of this complex semantic value, in addition to contribute to the work of typology that addresses the phenomenon of insubordination.
