Abstract

This research project aims to discover bioactive and structurally novel secondary metabolites from marine and endophytic microorganisms taxonomically selected, using dereplication strategies. Chemical investigation of crude extracts produced by unusual microbial strains will be performed after bioassays and HPLC-PDA-MS evaluation. Dereplication using MarinLit, Dictionary of Natural Products and Scifinder will be strategically employed for the finding of new bioactive compounds. Pure substances will be identified by analysis of spectroscopic data and further evaluated using bioassays in order to determine biological activity profiles. This project aims to explore yet poorly investigated microbial sources towards the discovery of compounds which might serve as models for drug development.
