Abstract

Neck pain is a common musculoskeletal problem, the occurrence of which is estimated at around 30-50% of the general adult population. However, in most cases, the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms are not clear. In the absence of well-defined etiologic factors, treatments are directed at symptom relief and rehabilitation programs directed to improving the resulting disability. Thus, it becomes important validation of questionnaires / instruments to assess pain and other symptoms, and functional limitations related to neck pain. The Profile Fitness Mapping questionnaire neck ( ProFitMap - Neck ) is one of the few tools available in the literature that assess symptoms and disability related to neck pain and was developed following appropriate criteria for face validity and content. Thus, the present study aims to conduct a cultural adaptation to Portuguese, reproducibility, internal consistency and construct validity of the ProFiMap neck pain in subjects with chronic neck pain. The sample consisted of 30 individuals with chronic neck pain for the test step of pre-final version / reproducibility and 100 individuals for analysis of internal consistency and construct validity. This will include patients with neck pain over three months during movement or during rest. The ProFitMap -neck questionnaire is a tool of 44 items and 2 domains: symptoms scale and range of functional limitation. This research will follow the recommendations of COSMIN for cultural adaptation, and the process of translation and back translation will occur in five stages: initial translation to Portuguese translation synthesis (consensus of the translators), or backtranslation back translation, expert committee, and finally the test version pre end. For construct validity of scores ProFitMap -neck will be faced with the Neck Disability Index score. It is hoped that this work made available to the Portuguese -Brazilian tool with adequate measurement properties for assessing symptoms and functional limitations related to chronic neck pain.
