Abstract

The concept of biodiversity for food and agriculture includes a set of components such as varieties of food, at the level of genetic resources and management systems used in culturally diverse populations. According to the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), study and understand the biodiversity is essential to ensure food security and sustainable development, ensuring improvements in quality of life. This study aims to evaluate and characterize the varieties of species traded offered to the consumer by checking the fruits of greater representativeness and analyze the data availability of nutritional composition of these foods. Will be identified and separated the varieties of fruits and marketed in São Paulo, with the help of expert (botanist), checking the main warehouses and retail trades. To perform data collection of micro and macronutrients terms will be used, including the nutritional composition, biodiversity, variety, cultivar, in various combinations, with emphasis on recently published data in databases of food composition conventional scientific articles, data published by national and international organizations (EMBRAPA, FAO, INFOODs) and related organs. The methodology for compiling the data is advocated by INFOODS/FAO. It is hoped in the future to use the results of this work as a tool for nutrition education, indicating the varieties richer in certain nutrients in order to improve the overall health of the population.
