Abstract

The use of fertilizers in agriculture has intensified with the increase of agricultural production, providing essential nutrients to the soil for the crops growth and development. However, fertilizer can also be source of toxic elements such as As, Ba, Cd, Cr and Pb, from raw materials and manufacturing processes, so it is important to monitor the concentrations of these contaminants in fertilizers. In the other hand, it is also important to monitor the concentrations of Si , considering that this nutrient is essential to increase the resistance of plants to drought stress and favors the reduction of pests in crops. In this context, this research project, which is developing in the PhD program at PPGQ, Federal University of São Carlos, proposes the development of analytical procedures for the determination of As, Ba, Cd, Cr, Pb, and Si in samples of mineral fertilizers by optical spectrometry with microwave inductive plasma optical emission spectrometry (MIP OES). This proposal is relevant in many aspects. It covers studies involving aspects related to the adequate preparation of the samples and multielemental determination of major elements to be monitored in fertilizers used in the country . Besides the acid decomposition and basic medium, will also be assessing determinations by using suspensions. The development of studies can contribute to broaden the applications of MIP OES in more complex matrices, allowing the investigation of strategies to eliminate possible interference and thus develop an analytical methodology with similar or superior performance to existing alternatives .
