Abstract

The requesting for a Bolsa Estágio de Pesquisa no Exterior (BEPE, in English: Scholarship of Abroad Internship Research) has, as purpose, give a continuity to the research activities related with the FAPESP doctoral project 'CHEMICAL AND SPECTROSCOPIC STUDY OF VERMICOMPOSTING DYNAMICS OF WASTE FROM LEATHER INDUSTRY (TANNERY) FOR PRODUCTION OF PLANTS WITH ECONOMIC INTEREST'. In the first stage of this study (first year of doctorate), the residues were already vermicomposted and chemically analyzed/monitored. The next step will be the characterization and monitoring of vermicomposting by spectroscopic methods of analysis. By this study we will understand the dynamics of the vermicomposting process, indicating the paths and phenomena occurring along the organic matter humification. The following spectroscopic techniques will be used: UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), fluorescence spectroscopy (FS), online pyrolysis coupled to gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS), electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), nuclear magnetic resonance (1H and 13C NMR). In order to perform these analyzes, we signed up a partnership with a group of foreign research with renowned and international recognition: Laboratorio Biomasse e Agroenergia - Gruppo Ricicla, from the Università degli Studi di Milano (Italy), under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Fabrizio Adani (Facoltaa di Scienze Agracie). Currently, the Italian universities and their research groups stand out in this study area. In recent years they held the presidency of the International Humic Substances Society (IHSS) many times, and have developed various techniques and analytical/spectroscopic methods for the study and characterization of humic substances in soils, sediments and compounds/vermicomposts. Undoubtedly, this internship will enrich the results and consequent quality of this doctorate. This motivation, moved by merits and academic gains that will be achieved, make us believe and motivate us to request this BEPE scholarship. (AU)
