Abstract During the course of the first doctorate year, ten strains of microalgae were isolated, belonging to five species. Also, the energy potential of two strains were estimated for productivity, lipid content and total sugars. It was found that this potential could reach percentages ranging between 50 % to 60 %, whereas the sum of the production of biodiesel and bioethanol. Therefore, it is intended to characterize the fractional yields of fatty acids esters, as well as identify and quantify sugars from residual biomass after oil extraction in order to determine the potential of use in the production of biofuels and bioproducts of higher value.According to the doctoral program, this is a pertinent point, beyond which it becomes necessary for the research development researcher expertise and the direct use of methods and equipments associated with the main focus of the work. These activities will increase the research gains by producing results that promote production of cohesive scientific articles, based on both the production of biomass needed to perform the characterization of the esters and sugars, as the direct use of operating equipments(GC and HPLC).For identification of esters of fatty acids and sugars will be used GC (Gas Chromatography) with FID ( Flame Ionization Detector ) and column for FAME 's / FAEE 's (Fatty Acid Methyl Esters / FA Ethyl Esters ) and HPLC (High- Performance Liquid Chromatography). This project will last eight months, starting on June 1st 2014, and will be conducted in LEPABE / FEUP and CIETI / DEQ / ISEP facilities, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Nidia de Sá Caetano, expert in these analyses and advisor of Professor Sônia Maria Flores Gianesella (USP).
