The association between epilepsy and Psychiatric Disorders has been known for a long time, only in the past few decades have significant studies on this subject been carried out. Research has shown a possible occurrence of mood and anxiety disorders associated with the presence of an inflammatory response and morphological changes of brain structures. Understanding this dynamic between Psychiatric Disorders and epilepsy can lead to better quality of care possibly improve these patients quality of life. The objective of this research is to assess Psychiatric disorders in patients with different types of epilepsy and verify if a relationship exists among the occurrence of these comorbidities when considering the presence of an inflammatory response and brain morphological changes. We will evaluate patients with different types of epilepsy that are currently receiving outpatient treatment from the Neurology HC/ UNICAMP, Campinas - Brazil. These patients will be screened against the criteria for inclusion / exclusion. Patients that pass the screening phase and agree to participate in this research must then sign a consent form. Evaluations will be carried out with the aid of psychological instruments: SCID-I, BDI, BAI and NDDI-E. We will collect blood samples to analyze pro and anti-inflammatory cytokines using a flow cytometer and conduct an MRI for future analysis of brain structure integrity using VBM and DTI. Patients under evaluation will be divided into groups according to their respective psychiatric diagnosis found and type of epilepsy. IBM SPSS20 software will be used for the statistical analysis.
