Abstract

This project will have as object of analysis the work of the historian Edgar Carone about the brazilian republic. It starts up from the principle that the author conceived, throughout his intelectual formation, a sistematic and coherent study project of the period, about which he published 10 books between 1969 and 1985. These books built a pioneer analysis of the republican history, selecting the political processes that allowed the delimitation of the existence of diferent moments on the regime, its rupture and its continuities.The Edgard Carone publishing have formed a compilation, and it is interesting to investigate in it how the author builds the history of this period from the idea of revolution, more specifically, in the books that refer to the called First Republic, from 1889 to 1930. As a recurrent theme on the brazilian historiography, the idea of revolution will be discussed in this project from the references built by the author in his formation and along with the contemporary historiographic debates.
