Abstract

This paper aims to reflect on the processes of urban space production based on a systematic analysis of real estate production/consumerism in two medium size cities, located in the west part of São Paulo, Brazil: Marília and Araçatuba. Both cities have great importance not only within the state Urban Network, but also interstate, in terms of their production profiles and the offer of educational, banking/financial services, healthcare, etc. In order to have our goals reached, we intend to analyze the spatial impact of 'Minha Casa Minha Vida' program (PMCMV), trying to understand in what ways it has affected the urban and city dynamics. Also, it's relevant to consider new ventures developed by the federal program 'Minha Casa Minha Vida', analyzing their effect on the current infrastructure, land prices and the need for new infrastructure creation. Moreover, we will attempt to comprehend the action of all the people involved with that development, such as the public and private sectors and civil society. The survey will be conducted from collecting data on Ministério das Cidades, Ministério do Desenvolvimento Social, City Hall, fieldwork, articles published by ReCiMe (Rede de Pesquisadores sobre Cidades Médias) and by the group of researchers 'Produção do Espaço e Redefinições Regionais' (GAsPERR). Furthermore, as this research is inserted into those group of researchers, it may corroborate more accurate assessment process on 'Minha casa Minha Vida' program, according to changes which have been produced about different cities from Brazilian urban network; meanwhile, when we compare two specific cities, it is possible to understand what kinds of relationship are established between real estate production/consumerism and the current production of urban space.
