Abstract

In this project, the route of internalization of bovine IgG and intracellular enzyme activity by enterocytes of pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus Holmberg , 1887), fed with lyophilized bovine colostrum will be evaluated. Colostrum is a rich source of animal protein and, being surplus in milk producing regions, constitutes an alternative to the protein supply in the diet of fish species. This milk secretion also consists of bioactive factors and immunoglobulins, mainly immunoglobulin G ( IgG), which can be used as a biological marker of intracellular route of absorption in the intestinal epithelium of teleost fish . The analysis will be performed from material obtained from pacu fed for 30 days with 0 and 10 % inclusion of lyophilized bovine colostrum in the diet. Six juvenile intestinal samples of each treatment, fixed in 4% paraformaldehyde in PBS will be dehydrated in increasing ethanol solutions (30 to 100%) and embedded in LR White resin. After immunocytochemical procedures for intracellular detection of IgG and cytochemical for intracellular enzyme activity, the tissue will be analyzed by transmission electron microscopy.
