Abstract

The power transformer is the most expensive equipment in a substation, SE, and some fault types are not detected quickly and reliably by current protection relays, as interturn or internal ground faults on the delta side of the transformer. This work proposes the study of a new method of fault detection for fast and effective transformer protection. The work will focus primarily on the internal power transformer faults and possible detection methods, taking into account the possibility of the use of bushing current transformers, CTs, and protection functions that use current variation and impedance during faults. The new method found during work will be compared in terms of sensitivity and speed to the major existing methodologies. (AU)
