Abstract

The current research project has as subject teachers' conceptions about the importance of the school organization and the participative and democratic management of the school. The general objective of the investigation consists on collecting data from teachers in a public school of São Carlos, verifying which are their conceptions about school organization, democratic management, autonomy and participation; on which knowledge all these concepts are based on and how they influence the relationship between teachers and the school's management team and the education processes at the school. Therefore, within the proposed investigation, we will try to understand what are the teachers' perceptions and concepts about the democratic management based on the principles of autonomy and participation, also including the possibility of identifying possible contributions for the improvement of their work conditions. The data collection will be firstly done by the application of questionnaires to the teachers to define what their conceptions are and what their knowledge about the study's subject is. Afterwards, semi structured interviews will be conducted in order to amplify the data base generated by the questionnaires. It is expected that the research results will contribute both theoretically and practically to the school democratization and for the improvement of the teaching and learning conditions.
