Abstract

Psychological distress and risk behaviors among college students have been the focus of research, especially in the medical school. However, are less frequent surveys with other courses, as dental students that investigates these issues and also perceptions of the educational environment, coping and adaptation to adverse situations. The objective of this study is to investigate common mental disorder, alcohol abuse and living conditions of dental students enrolled in 2014, at Universidade Estadual de Campinas - UNICAMP, identifying risk and protective factors for psychological distress. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical approach (N = 320) with students of all series that agree to participate. The research protocol contains questionnaire with closed and open questions on sociodemographic characteristics, lifestyle, self-rated about health, career choice and history of psychological / psychiatric treatment. Will also be investigated: social support (Social Support Scale), common mental disorder - TMC (Self Repporting Questionnaire), alcohol abuse (Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test), educational environment (Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure), coping strategies (Coping Strategies Inventory) and resilience (resilience Scale). The categorical variables will be analyzed by a descriptive analysis, and the bivariate and multivariate analyzes will seek to identify risk and protective factors for outcomes (psychological distress and alcohol abuse) will be held. The exposure variables are sociodemographic characteristics, social support, educational environment, coping and resilience. The significance level of 5% standard will be adopted. Integrate the model for multivariate analysis, the variables with probability equal to or less than 0.25. (AU)
