Abstract

Cisplatin is an antitumoral agent most commonly used in chemotherapy, however nefrotoxicity limits its use. There are several mechanisms that causes renal dysfunction after cisplatin exposure: direct tubular toxicity leads to apoptosis, necrosis and inflammation. Several works with exercise shows that it is a great tool for diminishes the inflammation, apoptosis, expression of inflammatory cytokines, reactive oxygen species. Beyond augments the lifespan the caloric restriction shows to be very important to generate different kind of acute stress resistance, like in lungs, heart, kidneys and other tissues. The caloric restriction is able to augments the insulin sensivity, diminishes the inflammatory cytokines production and proteins that induce apoptosis, augments the production of anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory proteins. In view of both exercise and caloric restriction are two great tools to attenuate the acute and chronic inflammatory process, the goal of this work is to investigate if exercise and caloric restriction individually and together may be a good alternative to prevent the cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury.
