Abstract

The rubber tree, species originating from the Amazon has a great economic importance, being a major source of natural rubber in the world, which serves as raw material for the most diverse products, among which stand out products used in hospitals and tires. Having large planted area throughout the world, about 95% of these areas use clones originating of 5 to 10 primary trees, thus depending on a close genetic basis. Having a long cycle improvement of about 30 years the use of new techniques can represent a decrease this time. In this context, emerge the molecular markers SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphism), which can assist breeding programs of rubber. In this context the use of a recently described technique, known as genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS), allows for the discovery of SNPs in large quantities, and using these data, it is possible to obtain high resolution genetic maps which can help the discovery of chromosomal regions that control characters with continuous pattern of phenotypic variation, known as QTL (Quantitative Trait Loci).
