Abstract

In this work it will be developed electrochemical sensors using glassy carbon electrodes modified with new nanomaterials based on carbon and/or metal particles and other types of glassy carbon electrode, the reticulated vitreous carbon, modified or not. These electrodes will be modified with different nanomaterials such as carbon black, boron-doped diamond powder and/or metallic nanoparticles. Several electrochemical techniques such as cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and electrochemical indicators will be used for determination and comparison of the electroactive area, area covering and heterogeneous electron transfer constants for the evaluation of the electrochemical properties of modified electrodes developed. Thus, with these modifications, it is intended to significantly improve the properties of the developed electrochemical detection sensors. It will also be evaluated the improvement of the analytical performance, as the decrease of working overpotential, which increases the selectivity of electrochemical sensors by reducing interference from electroactive species at a more positive/negative potential, the increase current density and/or increase of sensitivity (increasing the slope of the analytical curve). The electrodes manufactured will be applied in analytical determinations of compounds of interest (environmental, pharmaceutical or biological) to the evaluation of analytical conditions necessary for the development of a new analytical procedure, for example, the linear response range, and detection limit, sensitivity and lifetime of the electrodes.
