Abstract

The arrival of a new family member influences interactions between the members themselves. This process becomes different when it involves the premature birth of a child and the use of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The consequences of such events affect the brother of children born preterm. There are few studies that explore the brother and experiences related to it. Thus, this study focused on the question "How do parents act towards the son, brother of the preterm child? How do parents act to fraternal bonds? ". The objective of the study is to understand the role of the parents with the child sister (brother) of a child born preterm, focusing on fraternity. Exploratory, qualitative research, supported by references Symbolic Interaction and Narrative Research. Proposes interviews with parents. And aim to generate contributions to humanized practices in the context of prematurity with the results of the study. (AU)
