The text proposes a doctoral research is the formation of mathematics teachers in a state of northeastern Brazil, Rio Grande do Norte. Questions arise about the teacher training from available research and our own experiences. To develop insights into these questions, we propose that this research project has the overall objective to understand and elaborate historical versions from different perspectives documentary and testimonial of how was the training of teachers who taught mathematics in the state of Rio Grande do Norte in the series that correspond to the current primary and secondary education, including aspects related to the possible development of this training process before and during the creation of the four oldest university courses that empower teachers in mathematics in that state, with the possible temporal delimiters to the 1950s and 1990s. To achieve our goal, develop a qualitative research study, opting for the Oral History (theme) as a research method. We intend to use not only the oral sources, in the form of depositions of Mathematics teachers and alumni who worked in the region, as well as written documents. The project is part of a greater design GHOEM (Group Oral History and Mathematics Education) which aims at realizing a mapping on the History of Mathematics Education Brasileira, in particular on the training of teachers who teach mathematics. Also, it is argued that this research exercise contribute to the creation of a version on the teaching of Mathematics in Brazil and what we have now called History of Mathematics Education. (AU)
