Abstract

Due to the ease of reproduction in captivity and the potential for creating zootechnical the Spix's yellow-toothed cavy (Galea spixii) has been the subject of several studies. Therefore, it is also important to understand the molecular and enzymatic mechanisms linked to its reproduction. The enzyme aromatase cytochrome P450 plays an important role in the conversion of estrogens from androgens. The gene which controls the conversion is the CYP19, which is also found in the brain and gonads of species and are linked to the areas of the brain aromatization, dimorphism and sexual behavior. In this context, this project aims to establish the molecular basis for understanding the behavior steroidogenic gonads and the role of aromatization in the brain of Spix's yellow-toothed cavy. For this study will be analyzed two groups of animals in the following stages of sexual development: impubertal, pre-pubertal, pubertal and adults, and the second experimental group will be administered with an aromatase inhibitor (letrozole). For both, will be collected the hypothalamic regions, testes, ovaries and adrenal glands at different stages of sexual development. The tissues will be analyzed for their behavior hystometric, expression levels of P450 aromatase and gene expression of CYP19. (AU)
