Abstract

The aim of this project is to recognize verbs in Brazilian Portuguese that can be classified as locative verbs, that is, verbs which establish a location relationship between their elements and which have the locative as an intrinsic part of their meaning. We expect to find which verbs can be classified as such through the morphological analysis of verbs and/or through morphosyntactic constructions with support verbs. In addition to identifying the locative verbs, we will study their syntactic-semantic features, having the Lexicon-Grammar Theory (Gross, 1968; 1975; 1981) as theoretical framework. We will analyze simple sentences extracted from electronic corpora. The collected data will be formalized into binary tables with the cases and the syntactic-semantic descriptions. With this formalization, we intend to contribute to the studies of language description and to the creation of resources for Natural Language Processing (NLP). (AU)
