Assessment of the effect of the dental pigmentation intensity in the trans-enamel and trans-dentinal penetration of hydrogen peroxide

Abstract

The purpose of the present study is to evaluate the color alteration and hydrogen peroxide trans-enamel and trans-dentinal penetration in bovine teeth, pigmented using black tea in different intensities. Firstly, the teeth will be analyzed and selected according to L* value, from the CIE L*a*b* color system. Afterwards, the specimens (N=80) will be divided into 4 groups (n=20) according to the pigment solution used: G1 - immersed in distilled water, G2, G3 and G4 - immersed for 6 days in black tea in the following concentrations: 10, 100 and 1000 mL of distilled water in 1.6 g of black tea, respectively. Thus, the samples will be re-analyzed using a spectrophotometer device Easyshade (Vita-Zahnfabrik, Alemanha), resulting in a new selection of the specimen according to the pigmentation level (n=15). In order to quantify the peroxide penetration, specimens will be positioned in Artificial Pulp Chambers (APC) and submitted to the bleaching treatment using 38% hydrogen peroxide (Opalescence Xtra Boost - Ultradent Products Inc., South Jordan, UT, USA). An acetate buffer solution inside the pulp chambers will be collected and after the addition of the enzyme peroxidase it will be evaluated in the reflectance spectroscopy. The data will be submitted to the most appropriate statistical analysis at a 5% level of significance. (AU)
