Abstract

The Soil Organic Matter (SOM) consist in an important component in the cicle of C, acting how reservoir of this element in the soil, and this storage of C can be released to atmosphere in CO2 form, due to SOM decomposition. Accordingly, it is important to understand the mechanisms of organic matter stability and retention to predict how the soils behave with changes, whether caused by climate change or management practices. Whithin of oxissols, that occupy 40% of Brazilian territory, there are the humic oxissolos, that have humic A horizons thick, and, therefore, with bigger carbon stocks than usual oxisols profiles. Humic horizon origin, formation and preservation aspects don´t sill completely know and they are linked with the dinamics and preservation mechanismos of organic matter. The aim of this study is extend the investigation started by pedology group of ESALQ-USP, with the procupation of understand better the humic oxissols genesis and mechanisms of retention of SOM by pyrolisys linked to gas chromatography and mass spectroscopy (pyrolisys - GC/ME). For this, it will be collected samples of A horizons, in regular deeps, in profiles of humic and non humic oxissols (reference soil) in Salinas - MG, under savanna vegetation and tropical climate. The samples will be submit to fisical and chemical fractionation and the fractions will be study in detail by pirólise GC/ME. (AU)
