Abstract

The quantity and composition of intramuscular fat (IMF) influence the sensory characteristics, nutritional value of beef and human health, since the profile of its fatty acids may present in diverse way as genetics, management and nutrition of animal origin. The deposition and fat composition are determined by many genes that participate directly or indirectly in adipogenesis and lipid metabolism. In the last decade, we have witnessed a major breakthrough in the area of the bovine genome that resulted in the complete sequencing of the genome, the development of strategies for sequencing RNA to study gene expression chips and high-density SNP genotyping. The aim of this study is to map regions of eQTLs across the bovine genome to characterize the genetic architecture involved in gene expression associated with the deposition and composition of intramuscular fat. One hundred and thirty samples of Longissimus dorsi muscle from Nellore steers genotyped by BovineHD 770k BeadChip will be used for the total mRNA sequencing and to obtaining the transcriptome. The eQTL regions identified in this project may contribute to the knowledgement of the biological mechanisms involved in the biosynthesis of fatty acids in cattle. These results will form the basis of data from the Thematic Project " Molecular basis of meat quality in Nelore cattle " (Process 2012/23638-8), contributing to an understanding of the regulation of biological process involved with various phenotypes of economic interest.
