Abstract

The Terpinen-4-ol (main component of alternofolia Melaleuca oil) acts in inducing loss of membrane integrity and interfering with the physiology of the microorganism cell. The objective of this study is to evaluate the antifungal and synergistic activity of terpinen-4-ol and nystatin, the antifungal property of Terpinen-4-ol in the form of liquid crystals, the cytotoxic potential applied in immortalized normal oral cells (NOK). This study will be conducted in two phases: 1 Identification of MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) and CFM (Minimum Fungicidal Concentration) of Terpinen-4-ol on C. albicans in planktonic form with concentrations to be determined beforehand. Analysis of different concentrations of oil on biofilm (SSD monoespécie) C. albicans developed in the microtiter plate. Nystatin is used as a control. The micro-organisms will be evaluated for metabolic activity of cells by XTT method. The same tests are applied to Terpinen-4-ol and nystatin in the form of liquid crystals. 2 Analysis of cell metabolism by evaluating the sulforodamida B assay (SRB) at 0.1%. (AU)
