Abstract

The main objective of this project is the synthesis of modified polyvinyl alcohol ([CH2CHOH]n, PVA) films via reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT), which allows the inclusion of terminal amino groups at the polymer chains. The PVA-NH3 obtained will be further reacted with glutathione (GSH) via carbodiimide reaction. The terminal GSH group will be S-nitrosated to yield nitric oxide (NO)-releasing polymers (PVA-SNO). The PVA-NH2 will characterized by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC). The PVA-SNO films will comprise a new platform for the local delivering of NO and will be characterized regarding their NO releasing properties. (AU)
