Evaluation of the interaction of titanium tetrafluoride with sound and demineralized deciduous enamel in vitro

Abstract

This in vitro study aims to evaluate the morphology, the percentage of elements and the formation of CaF2 on the surface of the deciduous enamel after the application of TiF4 and NaF varnishes. Polished samples of sound and demineralized deciduous enamel (2x2mm) will be used. The demineralization of half of this samples will be caused by the demineralizing solution containing lactic acid and tetraethyl methyl diphosphanate (pH 5, 6 days). Samples of primary enamel will be treated with varnishes containing TiF4 or NaF (2,45% F-) for 12 hours for further analyses by MEV-EDS, in order to evaluate the surface qualitativaly and quantitativily (presence of elements). To evaluate the amount of CaF2 deposited on the deciduous enamel surface (sound and previously demineralized), basic biopsies (soluble F- KOH) will be performed. For both analyses, there will be a control group (without any treatment). The normal distribution and homogenity of data will be checked for statistical analyses. Then, the most appropriate statistical test (parametric or non-parametric) will be applied in order to compare the difference between the groups of treatment. The sample number will vary from 5 to 10 and the level of significance will be 5%.
