Abstract

Human infants are born with a biological apparatus capable of attracting attention and care of adults who, in turn, build and share practices of care/education allowing besides their survival, their cultural and subjective constitution. Although this process have taken place in different contexts throughout history and in different life conditions, in the literature review studies are mainly focused on family contexts; at best, they address the daycare center context. In addition, studies approach development based on adult's perspective, combined with the indirect participation of infants. Thus, there is an invisibility of certain contexts, such as foster institutions and foster family, and at times, there is invisibility of the infants themselves. Thus, this research aims to investigate the interrelations of practices of care/education and infants emotional expressions of children between three and eight months of age living in different sociocultural contexts: biological family, fostering family, the foster institution and daycare center. Four CINDEDI's Audiovisual Data Base will be used, with video recordings of infants in these contexts. Data from the biological family were made throughout the infant's first year of life. In daycare center, recordings followed up three focal babies (between 4 and 13 months of age), over four months; at the foster institution, three focal babies (between 3 and 13 months of age) were videotaped for four months; and, in the foster family, two babies (between 5 and 11 months of age) were monitored for six months. One infant from each context was selected, under the criteria of age intersection, between three and eight months. Thus, participants will be, respectively, Aruã, Catherine, Luke and Cecilia. Empirical corpus will be constructed selecting emotions of displeasure: mapping the emotional expressions, behaviors will be categorized in detail, both in infants and partners as they relate dialogically. Following quantitative analysis, episodes will be selected and analyzed, having as criteria the evidence of care/educational practices combined with infants' emotional expressions being manifest and possibly transformed, either in the same episode or over time, in the various contexts and relationships. This work intends to contribute by enabling the investigation of some of the different contexts in which infants live and grow, giving greater visibility to these environments and expanding knowledge regarding the education of young children. It is a hope to contribute with both theoretical issues and training/education policies and programs, possibly underlying new strategies for community action. (AU)
