Abstract

Much has been studied about the babies' interactions and their role on children' development. Such focus has been mainly investigated through the interactions with the mother in the home environment. Though, new social-cultural conditions have led women to the labor market, with an increasing need of sharing the babies' care and education. One alternative of care has been within collective education institutions, as daycare centers, where the most frequent partner is the peer. However, very little has been studied on how such interactional processes happen. Considering this, it was here defined to study the emotional expressiveness among peer babies in the daycare environment. Through multiple study cases, and by using videorecordings, interactions will be observed and it will be analyzed if emotional expressions (particularly of cry and smile) occur among babies' interaction; and, if positively so, how does it happen and develop. These video recordings will be made in a municipal public daycare in a city of Sao Paulo state. The subjects pivots will be two babies, aged between 5 and 7 months old, which will be followed for six months. Scenes will be initially mapped, searching for all emotional expressions among infants' interactions. Afterward, it will be selected only expressions of laughter and cry, organized and ordered chronologically. Analysis of the episodes will be microgenetic. The theoretical and methodological perspective which underlies this research is cultural-historical, basically the network of meanings. The project may both contribute theoretically to Psychological development, as in terms of intervention in collective contexts of education with small children. (AU)
