Abstract

A quest for bacterial communities present in different environments became an important goal within the scientific community, in order to know the role of each one within an environment. The term "metagenomics" was first used in 1998 by Jo Handelsman, from University of Wisconsin - USA and refers to a culture-independent study of a collection of genome of a diverse of bacterial communities that can be used in exploration of all bacterial genomes that reside in the environment, plants and animals. Because of the clinical importance of this new technology that identifies all bacterial genera in a sample, including those whose cultive is difficult by standard techniques, the aim of this study is evaluate tracheobronquical wash microbiome using metagenomics. This study will be conducted in the Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Science da Veterinary College, University of Cornell, New York, EUA.DNA from all samples will be extracted using QIAamp DNA minikit (Qiagen) and the sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene will be performed using Illumina GAIIx platform.
