Abstract

The project objective is to act in a synergistic and complementary way with a work in progress in Biological Processes Laboratory (LPB / USP-São Carlos), through the evaluation of microbial diversity using independent growing techniques (PCR / DGGE and sequencing of the gene 16S rRNA). Therefore, the samples will be derived from a biological reactor EGSB (expanded granular sludge bed) applied for the treatment of anionic surfactant (linear alkyl benzene sulfonate) in wastewater diluted commercial laundry in domestic sewage. It is noteworthy that reactor is in operation phase (LPB / USP-São Carlos) by graduation student Alana Gandra L. de Moura oriented by Prof. Dr. Maria Bernadette A. Varesche. Four objectives will be evaluated in this project: (I) diversity of Archaea and Bacteria Domain in the reactor samples; (II) evaluation of possible microbial stratification along the reactor, (III) to assess the diversity of the key gene (bamA) involved in anaerobic degradation of aromatic compounds and (IV) characterize the phylogenetically of microbiological group Bacteria. This study will contribute to the EGSB reactor operating data, allowing deepen understanding of anaerobic removal of LAS in biological reactor. It is emphasized that integration of different areas (Process Engineering - with the use of biological reactors and Microbiology) aims to improve the process and the knowledge of the relationships between the members of the microbial consortium responsible for the degradation of LAS molecule.
