Abstract

Objective: Verify the relation between the BMI (Body Mass Index) obtained by applying a figure rating scales and the measured and self-reported height and weight from college students. Methods: it will be a cross-sectional study. Will be invited to take part all the students from the graduation course of Pharmacy and Biochemistry of College of Pharmacy (n=430). In the formation of a sample, will be appointed demographic and academic information. The weight (Kg) and height (m) measured, self-reported and found by silhouette rating scales are going to be used to calculate Body Mass Index (kg/m2). For analysis of agreement of the obtained BMI in the three different methods (measure, self-measured and figure rating scales), it will be estimated the Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). To evaluate the discriminating capacity of nutritional status of the methods "figure rating scales "and "self-reported measure", the BMI measured will be considered gold -standard. It will be evaluated sensitivity, specificity, accuracy and positive and negative predictive values for each test method. It will be prepared a ROC curve (receiver operator characteristic curve), and calculated its area for the evaluation of each methods discriminant capacity. The comparison is going to be made by z test and based on the difference between the areas. The significance level to be used for decision-making will be 5%.
