Evaluation of serum progesterone on the day of hCG in relation to pregnancy rate in patients undergoing assisted reproductive techniques

Abstract

The search for predictors of assisted reproduction highly complex treatments success, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection ("ICSI"), is essential, since it would enable single embryo transfer with the reduction of risks of multiple pregnancy aiming at an acceptable pregnancy rate. In this context, we highlight the serum level of progesterone in assisted reproduction treatments dosed on the date of application of the chorionic gonadotropin hormone (HCG). If the value is greater than expected, can harm the pregnancy rate by both the ovarian involvement, considering oocyte maturation, fertilization and embryo cleavage, and by inadequate endometrial decidualization. The objective of this study is to evaluate the progesterone value collected on the day of HCG that predicts better pregnancy rates, and characterize the epidemiological profile of the group studied. This information lacks studies in a population with large ethnic miscegenation like Brazil, contributing in the process of prioritizing the single embryo transfer with a suitable pregnancy rate. The study will be prospective observational performed at the Human Reproduction Center and Genetics, Faculty of Medicine of ABC from the year 2014. One thousand two hundred women will be evaluated in three groups as highly complex treatment history: group I, no previous treatment; group II, previous failure in an attempt, and group III if two or more previous failures. Infertility factors considered in each group are male, ovulatory, endometriosis and both when identifying the couple a female and male factor. (AU)
