Abstract

The present study aims to evaluate the serum biochemical profile in healthy newborn buffalo calves. Blood serum samples of 50 Murrah animals from a dairy farm in the municipality of Sarapuí - SP will be examined. Buffalo calves will be distributed into two groups, with 25 animals each, according to the number of calving of their mothers: G1 (calves from primiparous buffaloes) and G2 (calves from multiparous buffaloes). Venous blood samples will be collected at the following times: at birth (M0), 24h (M1), 48h (M2) and 72h after birth (M3) and 7 (M4), 14 (M5), 21 (M6) and 30 days of age (M7) for determination of serum activities of gamma-glutamyl tranferase (GGT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and creatine kinase (CK), and serum concentrations of total protein, albumin, total calcium, iron, ionized calcium, phosphorus, sodium and potassium.
